Burn: Burn codes thermal burns, that comes from a heat source, such as fire or hot appliance.

We have three degree in burn. If epidermis is involved, we code first degree. If dermis is involved we code second degree. If hypodermis is involved we code third degree.
Always code higher degree first
3rd degree
2nd degree
1st degree
- Always code higher degree first.
- First we identify the site for e.g. chest, face, extremities
- Second we code severity, third degree, second degree, and first degree
- TBSA (Total Body Surface Area) for e.g. abdomen 5%, face 2%, extremity 5% = 12%. Assign the accordingly.
- Cause: Place of occurrence and Activity
Rule of nine
Our body parts are divided into rule of 9
- Trunk area (front and back) 18%
- Lower extremities 36%
- Upper extremities 36%
