Neoplasm(C00-D49)
A neoplasm is a new growth of abnormal tissues in the body, characterized by tumor.
Types of Neoplasm: It is necessary to determine from the record if the neoplasm is benign, ca-in-situ, primary malignant, secondary (metastatic) malignant, uncertain behaviour or unspecified behaviour
Guidelines of Sequencing:Â
- When a patient is admitted because of primary neoplasm with metastasis and treatment should be directly toward the secondary site, in that condition we always code secondary site first then we code primary
- Malignant code always be start from C series
- Benign, Ca-in-situ codes always be started from D series
- Anemia associated with malignancy, we assign the code Anemia in neoplastic disease that is D63.0
- Patient admission/Encounter chiefly for administration of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, so in that condition we assign the Z51 series be primary code.
Sequencing of complications
Reason for encounter                     Sequencing
Treatment of Primary malignancy     :Primary site then Metastatic sites
Treatment of secondary malignancy   :Metastatic site first then primary sites
Malignant neoplasm in a pregnant patient :First we code O9A.1- then neoplasm
Complication associated with neoplasm,
treatment is only for the complication           :First we assign the code                                            complication and then neoplasm
Anemia associated with neoplasm  :Neoplasm code first then anemia in neoplastic                               disease (D63.0)
Complication from surgical procedure for treatment of a neoplasm :Complication                                                     and then neoplasm
Pathological due to neoplasm :Code pathological fracture M84.5 and then                                  neoplasm
