Word Meaning
- Pharynx: Throat, passageway for food to the esophagus and air to the larynx
- Larynx: Voice box
- Lungs: Two spongy organs, located in the thoracic cavity enc
- Lobes: Subdivisions of the lungs, two on the left and three on the right
- Pleura: Membranes enclosing the lung lining the thoracic cavity
- Diaphragm: Muscular partition that separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity and aids in respiration by moving up and down
- Eupnea: Normal Breathing
- Bradypnea: Slow breathing
- Tachypnea: Fast breathing
- Hyperpnea: deep breathing
- Epistaxis: Nosebleed
- Hypercapnia: Excessive level of carbon dioxide in the blood
- Hypoxemia: deficient amount of oxygen in the blood
- Hypoxia: deficient amount of oxygen in tissue cells
- Rhinorrhea: watery discharge from the nose
- Bronchitis: inflammation of the bronchi
- Laryngitis: Inflammation of larynx
- Pharyngitis: Inflammation of the pharynx
- Pleuritis: Inflammation of pleura
- Pneumonia: Infection of the lung caused primarily by bacteria, virus, and chemicals
- Pneumonitis: Inflammation of the lung
- URI: Upper Respiratory Infection tract involving the nasal passages, pharynx and bronchi
